Terms of Service
Last Updated: 2026-01-12
1. Introduction
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of qesx, the web application hosted at this domain.
By accessing or using qesx, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the application.
The "Best Effort" Nature of this Service
This application is developed and maintained by Steve Butterfill (an academic at the University of Warwick) as a personal project to support teaching.
Important: This software is provided on a "best effort" basis. While every attempt is made to ensure security, accuracy, and reliability, this is not an enterprise-grade commercial service. It is an educational tool developed by an individual.
Errors in the Questions
The questions were created mechanically and not all have been carefully reviewed by a human.
Here is how they are often created:
- lecture materials (slides, notes, transcripts) plus common mistakes extracted from previous years' essay feedback given to LLM;
- LLM asked to produce questions and answers;
- quick 2am read of a small sample to check that the questions and answers seem ok.
This is an error-prone process.
Questions marked as 'reviewed' have been read by a human but mistakes are still possible.
Over time, questions are read more carefully and edited. In many cases, changes are required.
2. Use of the Service
2.1 Eligibility
You must be a human (no bots, no automation).
2.2 Academic Integrity
You agree to use this platform honestly.
- You will not create multiple accounts to manipulate grading statistics.
- You will not use automated scripts or bots to submit answers.
- You will not share your Magic Link or session access with others.
2.3 Acceptable Conduct
The "Help Request" feature allows you to send messages to staff. You agree to keep these messages professional and respectful.
3. Intellectual Property
3.1 Platform Content
The questions, logic exercises, and educational materials provided on this platform are the intellectual property of their respective authors (typically the module convenors). You may use them for your personal study but may not redistribute, sell, or scrape them without permission.
3.2 Your Content (The License)
You retain ownership of the answers and messages you submit. However, by submitting them, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:
- Process and grade your work.
- Display your work to Tutors, Lecturers and Admin.
- Store anonymized versions of your answers in our "Answer Key" database to improve the auto-grading system for future students.
4. Grading and Assessment Disclaimer
- Software Errors: Automated grading scripts may contain bugs. A "Correct" or "Incorrect" result on this platform does not guarantee the same result in a formal University exam.
